Soutenir l’éducation

Students read aloud in French class at St. Famille elementary school in Les Cayes, Haiti. This school was rebuilt after the 12 January 2012 earthquake in Haiti by funds donated through The Rotary Foundation’s Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. The fund’s advisors decided education was the number one long term recovery goal. When kids can return to school, they have a sense of stability, a hope that life can return to normal. The earthquake resulted in an estimated 316,000 deaths, 1.2 million displaced and 400,000 more orphans. Up to this point, the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund has collected $2.2 million funding 9 matching grants and 78 projects. Haiti has received assistance from thousands of Rotarians, Rotary Clubs and Districts from 60 countries around the world. The Clubs in District 7020, home to Haiti, has funded approximately $750,000 worth of the projects.
